043-04

They did not stop
That is the strange part

The calendar was full
The schedule was kept
The correct words were spoken
At the correct times
In the correct order

Nobody skipped a festival
Nobody forgot an offering
Nobody sang off key
And yet

Amos walked through it all
And heard something underneath the noise

Not silence
Worse than silence
An echo

The sound of voices
That have forgotten
There is someone
On the other side

Seek me
Not the festival
Not the correct sequence
Not the building with my name on it
Me

When was the last time
You sang to me?

Not about me
Not for the people behind you
Not to feel something
To me

Seek good and not evil
That you may live
Seek me
And live

The room is not locked
The door is not barred

It is just
That nobody
Is knocking anymore

They are singing in the hallway
Very beautifully
Very correctly

And the door
Stays closed
