Hear, O people, the words of King Solomon
Spoken long ago in the gates of the city
Wisdom calls out in the street
She lifts her voice in the square
How long, O simple ones, will you love your simple ways?
In the shadow of towers that still stand tall
A voice cuts through the gathering night
She calls to the sons of men, one and all
With words that burn like holy light
But another shadow moves in the gloom
A woman with lips like poisoned wine
She whispers low inside the room
Come in, my weary knight, this feast is thine
The knight stands armed, his helmet gleams
A ruined city burns within his eyes
He hears the call of ancient dreams
Yet turns toward the softer lies
Wisdom stands naked, pure and bright
Truth without veil, without disguise
But Folly wears a silken light
And blinds the heart with pretty lies
How long will you love your simple way?
How long will you scorn the voice that saves?
The fool laughs loud and turns away
While Wisdom weeps beside the graves
Wisdom calls
Wisdom calls
But the heart has chosen other walls
Folly laughs
Folly reigns
And the sword is stained with silent pain
Put it down
No
Only for a moment
No
Feel your hand
I feel the steel
Exactly
The shield is still intact
The wall is still in place
The line has not been crossed
Yet blood is on the handle
And Wisdom bleeds again
