Where the Spirit of the Lord is
There is freedom
Stop
Do not rush past
Do not raise the banner
Ask first
Freedom — from what?
The sentence does not stand alone
One breath before it
A veil fell
And one breath after it
Stands the word
That settles everything
With unveiled face
This freedom is freedom to see
Nothing lies anymore
Between the face
And the glory
Not: do what you want
But: see
What was always there
Almost everyone reads
Their own idea of freedom
Into this verse
And with it hangs
A new veil
Over the text
That speaks of veils
Being removed
The misuse of the verse
Is the sickness
The verse describes
And then verse eighteen
What unveiled sight is for
We all
With unveiled faces
Behold
And are transformed
Into the image we behold
Not by effort
By beholding
You become
What you steadily behold
That is why sight is not everything
But without sight
Nothing is transformed
This freedom is freedom to see
Nothing lies anymore
Between the face
And the glory
Not: do what you want
But: see
What was always there
