Moses came down and the light was still on him
And everyone flinched, so he covered the shine
The cloth stayed on long after the glow was gone
A mask kept for a glory that had already left the building
We learned the trick before we learned to walk
Keep the face composed
Keep the current low
Nobody has to know the bulb burned out
If you never take the shade off
But the veil was never armor
It was just insulation
A layer we built so no one would feel
How much we were actually carrying
Turn to the Light and the cloth comes away
Not stripped
Not shamed
Just — away
And the face underneath isn't empty
It's a face that's finally touching the current
This isn't the freedom of getting even
That circuit gets built somewhere further down the line
This is a smaller, stranger freedom
You don't have to perform the light to carry it
Glory to glory
Not a flash — a rising
Not the veil coming off once, but staying off
So the current climbs instead of leaking out
Through everything we used to hide behind
No veil in the dark
Just bare metal, catching what it's given
Before we dig
Before we lay the wire
Someone has to go first with the face uncovered
Silence
