What you are about to hear
Is not a sermon

It is a question that has been building
Since the first element found its place

The question is simple
It has travelled
From before the first star
To arrive at your ear

If the universe was prepared with this much patience
What was it prepared for

The answer is not thunder
It is not a temple
It is not a title kept at careful distance

It is a word a child uses without thinking twice

What follows is the story
Of how the farthest God became the nearest name
Not by becoming smaller
By letting us finally come close enough to hear

In this prayer, Jesus teaches how to pray
He doesn't start with titles meant to keep the world at bay
He could have said "Almighty God of Israel alone"
He could have drawn a border, left the nations on their own

But instead he opens with a word so small, so near
Abba — and the distance disappears

Not a distant throne, but a Father drawing near

The God who lets the outsider call him here
One word is all it takes to change the atmosphere

He could have kept the language of the temple and the priest
He could have made it complicated, made it hard to reach
But he chose the word a child would use without a second thought
Abba — and the kingdom opened up for those who once were not

And if we really listen to the way he chose to start
We understand the ending before the prayer even begins
Because the one who lets us call him Abba from the heart
Is the same who later carries all our debt upon the cross

In the beginning, when the darkness had no name
Before the stars were burning and the elements took shape
He spoke into the silence, and the silence broke apart
Not by accident or chaos — but by purpose from the start

He didn't roll the dice and hope that something would appear
He counted every constant, every law that would cohere

In the beginning God created heavens and the earth
And He had a plan before the very first light burst
Not a random spark that happened just to be
But a careful, hidden purpose running through eternity

He prepared the heavy elements in the hearts of dying stars
So that later, in the silence, they could serve as beating hearts
Cobalt, iodine and others waited, silent, without name
Until the moment life would need them running through its veins

He didn't improvise when chaos tried to take control
He built the hidden structures long before they took their toll

He had already chosen what would later make it fit

He prepared the cobalt long before the first Kilonova burned
Knowing one day life would need it, though the planet wasn't turned
Tried iron, tried the others, nothing worked the way it should
Only cobalt in the center made the molecules do good

And the rhodopsin waited in the dark for photons yet to come
Changing state in nanoseconds — work that had to be done

And then He added something we so easily forget

And the One who taught this prayer later said it clear and plain:
I am the Good Shepherd — and He carries every name

So when we speak too quickly, when the anger starts to rise
We're not just breaking silence — we're breaking something wise

I was out there in the desert, eating what the land would give
Honey from the wild and locusts just to stay alive
I saw the heavens open long before the people came
I saw the Spirit resting on a man without a name

And I knew this wasn't just another prophet passing through
I knew the voice that spoke that day was speaking something true

This is my beloved Son — listen to Him now
Not because I say it, but because the heavens bowed
This is my beloved Son — don't just stand and stare
He's the one the Father sent, and He's already here

I was calling people out into the river to repent
Never thought the One I pointed to would be the One who's sent
I saw Him coming toward me and my spirit knew it then
The Lamb of God was walking where the water meets the sand

And I knew this moment wasn't something I could understand
But I knew I had to speak it while I still had breath to stand

There was a man, long before the temples and the laws
Who walked with God as friend, not servant, not in awe
He didn't bow from distance, didn't tremble at the name
He spoke with Him as equal — and the fire and smoke remained

And if that man could stand before the burning and not die
Then maybe we have missed the point of who we're talking to tonight

This is not a distant throne you're meant to fear
This is not a title you are forced to revere
He calls you friend — if you will take the name
Abba is not weakness, it's the door He opened wide
But don't mistake the closeness for a thing you can decide

He didn't wait for perfect words or perfect hearts to come
He called a man His friend when all the nations were still one
And later came the voice that split the sky in two
This is My beloved Son — listen well to what is true

So when you say "Our Father", when you dare to speak it plain
Remember who is listening — and remember why He came

This is not a distant throne you're meant to fear
This is not a title you are forced to revere
He calls you friend — if you will take the name
But friendship has a weight, and nearness has a cost
Abba is not comfort if the heart remains uncrossed

You can keep your distance, you can keep your careful prayers
You can call Him Lord and Master, keep Him safely over there
But if you want the friendship that was offered from the start
Then speak it like you mean it — Abba, from the heart

Abba is the doorway but the doorway isn't new

And gave the universe its frame
You are the voice that shakes the cedar

But when it came to making man
Speaking the word would not do

The sovereign hands that forged the sun
Reached down into the ground
The God of all the distances
Allowed Himself to be found

Elohim in the heavens
Abba in the clay!
You could have stayed a million miles
And washed the world away
But You became the Potter
And we became the dirt
The Maker of the galaxies
Is holding human hurt

Isaiah saw the temple shake
He saw the smoke, he felt the dread
He knew the holiness of God
Could strike a mortal creature dead
But then the prophet found the hinge
The door that opens up the sky:
You are our Father, we the clay
The ancient, terrifying cry
Turned into a whisper

Elohim in the heavens
Abba in the clay!
You could have stayed a million miles
And washed the world away
But You became the Potter
And we became the dirt
The Maker of the galaxies
Is holding human hurt

We are the work of Your hands
We are the breath in the dust
Elohim
Abba

Before the beginning, He knew
Before the light, He was there
The distance was broken by design
The cosmos was built for a prayer

He hid the cobalt in the dark
Prepared the elements to align
He didn't wait for random sparks
He drew the bloodline through the time
He walked with Abraham as friend
He didn't need the smoke and fear
He planned the water and the dove
He planned the day the Son appeared

From the prophet in the desert

The grand design of Elohim
Is stepping out of the light!

Johannes saw Him in the stream
The Lamb walking on the sand
The Spirit resting like a dove
The kingdom finally at hand
And then He taught us how to pray
No distant titles, no defense
Just "Abba", spoken from the heart
The ending of the consequence

Elohim! The architect!
Abba! The open door!
Elohim! The highest throne!
Abba! He asks for more!
He hallows the name, He carries the weight
He stepped from eternity into our fate!

The distance is broken!

In the garden, under branches
Heavy with the weight of night
The One who taught us how to pray
Was trembling out of sight
He could have reached for throne and thunder
Called the armies, called the flame
But when every breath grew harder
He held on to one Name

Not a word that stopped the sorrow
Not a charm to make it cease
It was closeness in the anguish
It was trust without release

The name He carried through the sorrow and the pain
Abba is His chosen name
Not a shelter from the darkness
But a bond the dark cannot unmake
He has names that shake the heavens

He did not say the cup was small
He did not hide behind the promise
That no faithful heart can fall
He said, "Everything is possible"
Then let the silence have its say
"Not the road that I would choose
But Yours will be the way"

All creation spoke around me
But I had not learned what I had heard

The stars had called You Elohim
Before my eyes could see their light
The oceans knew the boundaries
You had spoken into night
The cobalt waited in my blood
The eye was waiting for the flame
Everything that made me living
Knew Your power before my name

I woke inside a world prepared
Long before my first request
The universe had learned Your greatness
I was learning I was blessed

I knew You first as thunder
I knew You first as flame
The heavens called You Elohim
The shepherd spoke Your Name
But when the Son stood near us
He taught our breath to say:
The Maker of the universe
Has placed Abba on our lips today

Abraham had called You Friend
Before the temples crowned the hill
David called You Shepherd
When the valley had grown still
Isaiah saw the smoke arise
Then found the Father in the clay:
We are the work within Your hands
And distance bent that day

Every name revealed a doorway
Every doorway showed us more
But none of us could cross the distance
Till the Son became the door

I knew You first as thunder
I knew You first as flame
The heavens called You Elohim
The shepherd spoke Your Name
But when the Son stood near us
He taught our breath to say:
The Maker of the universe
Has placed Abba on our lips today

Johannes heard it at the river:
This is My beloved Son
The Spirit rested on the water
What was promised had begun
And then the Son looked at the strangers
At the wounded and the blamed:
When you pray, begin together
Our Father is His chosen name

Not mine alone
Not yours alone
No private God
No guarded throne

If He is ours
Then you are mine
Not as possession
But as bloodline

The stranger enters
The border ends
The Father's children
Must become friends

We knew You first as thunder
We knew You first as flame
The heavens called You Elohim
And holy is Your Name
But when the Son stood among us
He gave our breath a claim:
The Maker of the universe
And Abba is His chosen name

Not chosen to diminish
The glory or the throne
But chosen so the orphan
Would never pray alone

The Maker of the universe
Whom stars and angels praise
Has placed Abba on our lips
And Our Father in our days
